1. All patients under 65 with invasive breast cancer undergo surgical axillary assessment.

2. All patients over 65 with invasive breast cancer and clinically detected nodal disease undergo axillary clearance.

3. All patients with invasive cancer =<5m in size undergo sentinel node biopsy.

4. A full informed consent is obtained prior to their surgery.

5. A detailed explanation is given regarding its need and the possible complications with the help of the Breast Care Nurse at the time the results of the biopsy are discussed.

6. All patients who have undergone axillary surgery are provided with a protocol for exercises and care of the arm after such surgery.
